Raging Fire Between Ice Prince And President Jonathan

Chocolate City rapper, Ice Prince Zamani is not
happy. This is coming on the heels of the double
explosions that hit Jos recently.
He’s hurt and wailing like a toddler. He may be down and pointing
fingers, but he’s not alone. In the wake of the twin explosions that
rocked his home town Jos, the Aboki singer couldn’t hold back his
pains. No. Not anymore. Ice Prince wept. He took to twitter, and
President Jonathan was at the receiving end.
Hear: “Goodluck Jonathan!! " He called, his sanity gone.
“What the fuck is up?? We’ve been glued to the news since this
shit started … Now there’s bomb in my city! Wtf is up??"
Blunt, but straight from the heart. No holds barred.
Ice Prince may have merely expressed his grief, albeit impolitely, but
his thoughts are not lost. The Nigeria project is indeed becoming a
nightmare. From our unending national woes, down to the Chibok
girls, then add the sudden return of hostilities in
Jos, then you’ll understand where the singer is coming from.
President Jonathan no doubt, may mean well for Nigerians. His
Transformation Agenda is there even in Braille for the blind to see
and admire. But that’s all there is! When the chips are down, you
struggle to find a single action in favour of the largely impoverished
Nigerians. Just like Ice Prince, you’re wondering about his sense of
purpose and sincerity. You’re wondering if he is truly in love with
this Nigeria.
Take the World Bank startling revelation that 100 million Nigerians
are languishing in extreme poverty and bleak future. This would have
been enough to challenge any leader, but President Jonathan. He’s
unruffled. He cannot lose his precious sleep over that. Just like he
said about the Boko Haram insurgency, he’s not the cause! How about
picking up the challenge? How about taking...say a salary-cut?
Dreams.
How do you even reconcile President Jonathan’s Kano jamboree barely
24 hours after an Abuja blast that claimed over 74 lives? Did he
visit oblivious of his largely underperforming team? Reuben Abati
may think otherwise. But, it is understandable. He has a job to do
after all.
Let the President take the initiative. Let him provide Nigerians with
visionary leadership. Let those surrounding him take heed. Let them
put a halt to the media campaign about some elusive achievements.
Nigerians are no fools. Let them tell the President the true yarning
and expectations of Nigerians. More than ever, let the President
pickup the challenge. The onus is on him.
Ice Prince has merely vented his angst. What’s left is finding a way
through. Will we ever find a way?

Meet the twins who share one boyfriend & had cosmetic surgery to look more alike.

Bizzare story right here..These 28 year old twins Anna and Lucy
DeCinque, born just one minute apart share everything in their life -
a job, a car, a Facebook account and even their boyfriend.
As if being twins wasn't enough, they decided to undergo cosmetic
surgery to erase any tiny differences in them
They have had identical procedures including lip fillers, breast
implants and fake eyebrows and eyelashed - at a cost of £130,000.
Anna and Lucy, who live at home with their mother, also share a
boyfriend, which they believe is a perfect situation for a relationship.
Anna said:
'We’re dating one boy at the moment. There are three people in
our relationship. We’re sharing.'
Lucy added: 'It’s not really weird to us. We have one boyfriend
and all three of us share the same bed. For guys, in their
hearts and dreams, they want two girlfriends.
'We have the same taste in everything, so obviously we’re going
to like the same boy too. We’re all together when we have sex,
and if we like the same guy, so be it. Every date had to be a
double date. It’s always double or nothing.'

Lucy said:
'Our mum has always been able to tell us apart. But, our
dad, not so much. He would say, "Which one are
you?"''We’ve had fun, especially when we were younger.
We would swap boyfriends, if we were bored.
'Like, even on the telephone, if I didn’t want to talk to
my boyfriend, Anna would take the phone and pretend to
be me. We would play games like that, and the other
person never realized. We’ve settled down a bit now.'

At least 300 people were confirmed dead on Monday when Boko
Haram gunmen in armoured vehicles stormed Gamborou Ngala town
in Borno state.
According source the security forces earlier deployed to area, moved to
the Lake Chad axis when they received intelligence report that some
gunmen were sighted with abducted schoolgirls moving to the area.
The insurgents targetted a local market and fired sporadic shots into
the crowd before proceeding into the town to wreak more havoc.

administrative headquatres of Ngala local government of the state,
about 200km from Maiduguri, the capital city.
Senator Ahmed Zannah, who is from the area confirmed the killings,
said the invaders spent 12 hours wreaking havoc on defenceless
civilians.
He said several other persons were also injured in the attack, while
almost all the houses and shops in the town were burnt down.
Senator zannah, who spoke in a BBC Hausa report monitored in
Maiduguri yesterday said many people were wounded, while surviving
victims rendered homeless as thousands of houses and shops were
burnt by the rampaging gunmen.
He pointed out that the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons
comprising of Armored Personnel Carries , (APC), Improvised
Explosive Devices, (IEDs), petrol bombs, assault rifles and Rocket
Propelled Launchers (RPGs).
“The attackers stormed the communities in the night when residents
were still sleeping, setting ablaze houses, shops and residents who
tried to escaped from
the fire, were shot ” Shehu said.
He added also that “ About 300 persons were confirmed dead after
the incident,
with several others injured. Almost all the houses in the communities
were destroyed by the hoodlums who threw Improvised Explosive
Devices (IEDs) at the
buidings.
My brother who was at the scene of the attack told me that the actual
number of the dead cannot be ascertained but at least they are upto
300. In fact as we spoke he wept following the high number of the
dead bodies which littered the market”, he declared.
According to him, the security forces earlier deployed to area, moved
to the Lake Chad axis when they received intelligence report that some
gunmen were sighted with abducted schoolgirls moving to the area.
“Initially there were many security operatives in the town to secure it
from possible attacks. However upon receiving information over the
movements of insurgents with kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls towards
Lake Chad area, they withdraw and moved further to confront the
gunmen.
It was just an hour after their withdrawal that the terrorists indaved
the town, shooting everyone at sight and setting buildings on fire. So
far 200 vehicles and thousands of houses, shops and an outfit of the
Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) were all burnt”, he explained.
A local government official who declined identification also confirmed
the casualty figures.
“It is really a terrible situation, we had wanted to rush relief
materials to the area to provide temporary succor to the victims. But
we were prevailed upon by security agents to shelve our plans on
security reasons”.
The official appealed to the state and Federal Governmenst to assist
the area with resources towards rehabilitating the victims.

Ahead of FIFA’s May 10 deadline for the submission of final list of
players selected to represent their countries at next month’s World
Cup in Brazil, the Nigeria Football Federation Tuesday released a
provisional list of 30 Super Eagles players for the mundial.
The list comprised of four goalkeepers. They are Vincent Enyeama,
Austin Ejide, Chigozie Agbim and Daniel Akpeyi.
The team’s defenders selected for the mundial are Elderson Echiejile,
Juwon Oshaniwa, Efe Ambrose, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike
Egwuekwe, Kenneth Omeruo, Joseph Yobo and Kunle Odunlami.
Also in the team are John Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Ramon Azeez,

released after he held a three-hour meeting with the NFF Technical
Committee at the Glass House in Abuja.
He further stated that the final list of 23 players who would represent
the nation in Brazil would be released on June 2.
Last Monday Keshi had insisted  that he was not arm-twisted by
members of the Nigeria Football Federation to include or drop any
player in the list.
He said he had a free hand from the NFF to select the best players
for the World Cup, but he was not averse to taking advice from well-
meaning Nigerians on squad composition.
According to him:, “The NFF is our parent body and should be
concerned about team composition for the World Cup, because the body
is made up of well-meaning Nigerians. But to be honest to Nigerians,
nobody in the NFF has come to me to say pick player A or B. They
respect my job as the head coach and I respect them as my employers
and there is no clash of interest.”

Yvonne Okoro’s Endless Grouse With Iyanya Over Yvonne Nelson

Iyanya may have stepped on the cobra’s tail and to think he will
easily escape the cobra’s wrath might be damaging to him.
Recall that some months ago, Iyanya and Yvonne Nelson were in the
news over a rumoured affair between them. At that time, Yvonne
Nelson went on Twitter to rant over the way her ‘fragile’ heart was
smashed on the hard floor by her Nigerian lover.
One person that was also not happy with the whole issue was Yvonne
Okoro, a Ghanaian actress. And for Iyanya to think Yvonne Okoro will
easily forgive him for jilting a sister may be very detrimental.
Over the weekend, Ghana was agog when the Ghana Music Awards
was held. According to a source who attended the glamorous occasion,
Iyanya was partly disgraced by Yvonne Okoro when he stepped beyond
his bounds.
We gathered that after the first set of awards were given out, Iyanya
mounted the stage to thrill his fans and after dancing and singing,
he reportedly took a bold step to invite Yvonne Okoro to dance with
him, a probably ‘request for her waist’.
To his shock, the pretty actress declined and the artiste was
reportedly forced to meet his ‘target’ where she was sitting. She was
said to have been called severally to dance with Iyanya, but still
declined until she finally reluctantly agreed.
Well, Yvonne, kindly forgive your Nigerian brother, remember, he has
already compensated Yvonne Nelson with a track. That’s fair enoug

A drunken 20-year-old
British woman was
caught having sex in the
toilet of a Virgin Atlantic
flight with a male
passenger she had just met while her parents sat
just metres away.
The woman was travelling with her family on a Virgin Atlantic flight
from London Gatwick to Las Vegas in the US last week when she
disappeared to the toilet with the man sitting next to her.
A passenger said, "She started getting heated with the guy next to
her. They went into the bathroom and people could hear loud noises.
The cabin crew forced to door open, then she really kicked off."
A row broke out between her and the air stewards and she had to be
restrained to her seat.
She was later taken away to be questioned by the US police but released

18+, The Trobrianders : The Tribe Where Kids Start Having Sex At 6 – Papua, New Guinea

These islanders from a remote tribe in Papua guinea seem like a case
study in the ultimate consequences of the sexual revolution.
Girls want sex just as much as guys, and kids start having sex at a
very young age — 6-8 for the girls and 10-12 for the guys —
with no social stigma.
They change partners often. Women are just as assertive and
dominant as men in pursuing or refusing a lover.
This is not only allowed but encouraged. There are few customs about
dating to inhibit “hooking up” and, of course, revealing clothing has
been taken to its limit, with girls actually going topless. However,
everybody have sex whenever they want.
In the Trobriand Islands, there is no traditional marriage ceremony.
A young woman stays in her lover's house instead of leaving it before
sunrise. The man and woman sit together in the morning and wait
for the bride's mother to bring them cooked yams.
The married couple eat together for about a year, and then go back to
eating separately. Once the man and woman eat together, the
marriage is officially recognized.
When a Trobriand couple want to marry each other, they show their
interest by sleeping together, spending time together, and staying
with each other for several weeks. The girl's parents approve of the
couple when a girl accepts a gift from a boy.
After that, the girl moves to the boy's house, eats her meals there,
and accompanies her husband all day. Then word goes out that the
boy and girl are married.
If after one year, a woman is unhappy with her husband, she may
divorce him. A married couple may also get divorced if the husband
chooses another woman.
The man may try to go back with the woman he left by giving her
family yams and other gifts, but it is ultimately up to the woman if
she wants to be with that man.

DHQ Says Suicide-Bomb Attack Foiled In Damaturu, Terrorist Arrested

A suicide bomb attempt was foiled by the security
operatives in the capital city of Yobe State,
Damaturu, in the morning of May 4, 2014, Sunday.
According to the statement by DHQ, signed by Maj. Gen. Chris
Olukolade, a suspected suicide bomber was driving a pickup vehicle
full of explosives. His target was 'A' Division of Police Command,
located by the main round-about in the heart of the city. However, the
police personnel on duty were able to neutralise the terrorist.
The items recovered from the vehicles included 6 already constructed
turbine containers loaded with explosives, as well as 20 liters of petrol
and 11 bags of beans chaff. These materials were transferred to the
Joint Task Force Headquarters in Damaturu, while the explosive
devices have been successfully and safely detonated.
Earlier this week the DHQ reported on other successful moves in the
battle with insurgency. Thus, a suspected Chadian
terrorist , linked to Boko Haram sect, was arrested in Borno, while a
total of 8 persons, including foreigners , are being
interrogated in connection with the recent Nyanya bomb
blast.

I love the attention my hips gives me- Shine Begho

Shine Begho is one media personality who isn’t afraid to show her
originality and flaunt her sensuality .
The svelte and sexy-eyed Delta State-born on- air-personality started as a TV presenter and then found radio which
caught her fancy.
Shine opens up on how she handles attention from the opposite sex, her
unforgettable moment as an OAP and the part of her body she
considers the sexiest.
Broadcasting for me began way back in 2007. I started as a TV
presenter and in 2008 I found radio and I just couldn’t leave it. I
used to have a permanent TV job and radio was on the side. For me,
the media has always been my thing, my passion since I was a kid.
The challenge is that you always have to be on point. It’s really not
easy to keep the listeners interested in what  you are saying. Why
should they listen to you? It’s really not easy because it has no
visuals, they cannot see you, nor see what the person is talking about.
It’s really not easy, and don’t forget there are so many radio stations
and people can just  tune in to any one that suits them. Secondly,
people don’t know you facially ,they just know the voice. Most times
when you say your name they recognize you. Radio on-air-
personalities  don’t get branded, no endorsements and it is really bad.
If you want to compare it to the outside world, like America, OAPs
get brand endorsements .So we need that.
Male attention? Usually I have this way I handle it, especially if the
guy is very persistent. I know how to turn them into ordinary friends.
I don’t know how I get it done, but I just do it. Maybe, it’s because I
have been doing it since I was in the university. I can remember back
in school, guys asking me out and not being  interested in them. You
know, we keep on chatting and doing stuffs but at the end of the day,
they ended up forgetting about having me to go out with them. It’s
the same thing here and now.  I try as  much as possible to make the
person a friend, but if the person is too persistent, then I just ignore
the person totally. Also, do not forget I am in a relationship too and
I don’t want anybody to come and spoil  things for me.
There are different nervous moments for a lot of different people.  On
this job, a lot of people always say they had butterflies the first time,
like, they were really scared of looking at the mic.
I never had any of those experiences and that’s the truth. That was
EKO FM then.  I just turned on the mic and started flowing with the
other presenters because I was co-hosting  and people loved it. I felt
encouraged, maybe it’s because I had already had TV experience .
My hips are the sexiest part of my body, you know, ‘hips don’t lie’. I
have had cute hips since I was a kid and I love it. I love the
attention it gives me and people saying “Oh my God, you are hot”.
You know it’s not easy to have a Coca-Cola bottle shape, that was
what I was called when I was a kid.
Now they call me ‘hips don’t lie’. A colleague of mine usually says
this:”Shine, the pride of Delta, have you seen those hips?” It makes
me laugh but that’s true. I love my hips so much I pray that my
daughter will have my kind of hips. I started noticing it when I was
done with high school and I started taking care of myself wearing
things that make me stand out.

assailants at Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West
Local Government Area of Edo State.
He was allegedly murdered at a drinking spot along the Benin-Auchi

LAGOS—Bagido area of Ijede Lagos, was weekend thrown into
mourning following the discovery of the decomposing bodies of a man,

the cause, following the discovery of a 3.5 KVA power generator there.
Describing the incident as sudden and unnatural death, the Lagos
State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide said: “At about

Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, weekend, narrowly escaped
lynching by angry youths for impregnating his 17-year-old
daughter.
According to reports, the alleged randy father hails from Ibiasegbe in
Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State but resides in Kalabari
Beach where he taps rubber.
The randy father, who claims to be an elder in a Pentecostal church,
has 11 children from his two late wives and expecting another one from
his fourth daughter.
The five-month-old pregnant girl is the man’s first daughter from
his second late wife.

The youths had already descended on him before a passer-by, who is
a lawyer, intervened and told them not to take the laws into their
hands.

months ago when he forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter
and in the process defiled her.

father came to her room one night and forced himself on top of her
after removing her clothes.
The 17-year-old girl, who is a junior student of St Michael’s
Secondary School, Orsu-Obodo, said her father threatened to deal

opposed.

immediately she stopped observing her monthly flow, adding that the
father didn’t say anything.

The President I want' - By Chimamanda Adichie

Award winning author Chimamanda Adichie writes on the kind of
President she wants. Read below..

Some of my relatives lived for decades in the North, in Kano
and Bornu. They spoke fluent Hausa. (One relative taught me,
at the age of eight, to count in Hausa.) They made planned
visits to Anambra only a few times a year, at Christmas and
to attend weddings and funerals. But sometimes, in the wake of
violence, they made unplanned visits. I remember the word
‘Maitatsine’ – to my young ears, it had a striking lyricism –
and I remember the influx of relatives who had packed a few
bags and fled the killings. What struck me about those hasty
returns to the East was that my relatives always went back to
the North. Until two years ago when my uncle packed up his
life of thirty years in Maiduguri and moved to Awka. He was
not going back. This time, he felt, was different.
My uncle’s return illustrates a feeling shared by many Nigerians
about Boko Haram: a lack of hope, a lack of confidence in our
leadership. We are experiencing what is, apart from the Biafran war,
the most violent period in our nation’s existence. Like many
Nigerians, I am distressed about the students murdered in their
school, about the people whose bodies were spattered in Nyanya, about
the girls abducted in Chibok. I am furious that politicians are
politicizing what should be a collective Nigerian mourning, a shared
Nigerian sadness.
And I find our president’s actions and non-actions unbelievably
surreal.
I do not want a president who, weeks after girls are abducted from a
school and days after brave Nigerians have taken to the streets to
protest the abductions, merely announces a fact-finding committee to
find the girls.
I want President Jonathan to be consumed, utterly consumed, by the
state of insecurity in Nigeria. I want him to make security a
priority, and make it seem like a priority. I want a president
consumed by the urgency of now, who rejects the false idea of keeping
up appearances while the country is mired in terror and uncertainty.
I want President Jonathan to know – and let Nigerians know that he
knows – that we are not made safer by soldiers checking the boots of
cars, that to shut down Abuja in order to hold a World Economic
Forum is proof of just how deeply insecure the country is. We have a
big problem, and I want the president to act as if we do. I want the
president to slice through the muddle of bureaucracy, the morass of
‘how things are done,’ because Boko Haram is unusual and the
response to it cannot be business as usual.
I want President Jonathan to communicate with the Nigerian people,
to realize that leadership has a strong psychological component: in
the face of silence or incoherence, people lose faith. I want him to
humanize the lost and the missing, to insist that their individual
stories be told, to show that every Nigerian life is precious in the eyes
of the Nigerian state.
I want the president to seek new ideas, to act, make decisions, publish
the security budget spending, offer incentives, sack people. I want the
president to be angrily heartbroken about the murder of so many, to
lie sleepless in bed thinking of yet what else can be done, to support
and equip the armed forces and the police, but also to insist on
humaneness in the midst of terror. I want the president to be equally
enraged by soldiers who commit murder, by policemen who beat bomb
survivors and mourners. I want the president to stop issuing limp,
belated announcements through public officials, to insist on a
televised apology from whoever is responsible for lying to Nigerians
about the girls having been rescued.
I want President Jonathan to ignore his opponents, to remember that
it is the nature of politics, to refuse to respond with defensiveness or
guardedness, and to remember that Nigerians are understandably
cynical about their government.
I want President Jonathan to seek glory and a place in history,
instead of longevity in office. I want him to put aside the
forthcoming 2015 elections, and focus today on being the kind of
leader Nigeria has never had.
I do not care where the president of Nigeria comes from. Even those
Nigerians who focus on ‘where the president is from’ will be won over
if they are confronted with good leadership that makes all Nigerians
feel included. I have always wanted, as my president, a man or a
woman who is intelligent and honest and bold, who is surrounded by
truth-telling, competent advisers, whose policies are people-centered,
and who wants to lead, who wants to be president, but does
not need to – or have to- be president at all costs.
President Jonathan may not fit that bill, but he can approximate it:
by being the leader Nigerians desperately need now.

We are doing our best, we are seeing rays of hope – Jonathan

Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan said in Abuja on Sunday that
the Federal Government had no plans to increase pump price
petroleum for now.
Jonathan, who gave this assurance at a Presidential Media Chat,
noted that such action could not be taken without following due process
and the consent of Nigerians.
“I have no plans now to change petroleum pump price, but if I have to
do it, I will do it following due process’’, the President said.
He denied insinuations that his administration was not decisive
enough to fight corruption in the country.
According to him, the federal government is doing everything possible
to investigate and bring to book every corrupt public officer.
He assured Nigerians of improved electricity supply, adding that the
present epileptic electricity supply in the country would soon be a thing
of the past.
“We are not moving as fast as we are supposed to, but the steps we are
taking will lead this country to a greater level.
“We will surely improve on it; I assure you it is not going to be worse
than this.
“This government is committed and we are doing our best and we are
seeing rays of hope’’, Jonathan said.
He added that the federal government was, however, looking on how to
get loan to invest robustly in the energy sector.
On the fight against insurgency, the president noted that he had
never said that his cabinet was infiltrated by members of Boko Haram
as was being insinuated in some quarters.
“I used the word government, I never said cabinet’’, he stressed.
He maintained that due to his government`s determination to fight
insurgency in the country, some government officials and security
personnel were being interrogated on grounds of acts of insurgency.
On the issues of his delay in declaring his intension to contest the
2015 presidential election, Jonathan said that; “this should not be a
problem to Nigerians.’’
He added that the nation`s economy and its survival should be the
concern of the people and not his presidential ambition.
“ACP as the major opposition party has not even named their
candidate and you are talking of PDP.

Justice Oputa dies at 96

Former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chukwudifu Oputa, 96 is dead.
He died today in Abuja.
A Legal Philosopher: Justice Chukwudifu Oputa—The Socrates of the Supreme Court
March 18, 2014Tribute
If you are a student of philosophy, you will no doubt have come across the name Socrates. He was one of the greatest minds of his generation. He was a Greek Philosopher whose thoughts and teachings have been of immense influenced to the legal profession. He taught Plato who as well taught Aristotle. That’s how I introduce my role model and mentor—The Honourable Justice Chukwudifu Akunne Oputa, A retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a man who has been aptly described as the Socrates of the Supreme Court.

Justice Oputa who is also referred to as “The Oputa of Oguta” was born on 22nd of September 1924 in Oputa, in the present Imo State. His father was Chief Oputa Izukwu and his mother Madam Nnawetu Oputa. He had his early education in Sacred Heart School, Oguta and Christ the king College, Onitcha.

He then proceeded to Yaba Higher College, but due to the exigencies of the Second World War, was sent to the famous Achimota College in Ghana, then Gold Coast.  There he graduated with B.SC(Hon)Economics in1945.  After this, he came back to Nigeria and took up appointment with Calabari National College. He later moved to Lagos where he worked as an  ADO (Assistant District Officer). It was where he achieved a remarkable feat; he studied at home and obtained his BA (Hon) History at home.

Justice Oputa then proceeded to London where he got his LLB (Hon) and was called to bar in Gray’s Inn, in London. Upon his return to Nigeria, then Barrister Oputa went into brilliant and successful and private practice. Handling such celebrated cases and special inquiries as Oguta Chieftaincy dispute 1958/59, the Amanyanabo Dispute 1956/60 and many others.

In 1966, Justice Oputa was appointed a Judge of the High Court of the then Eastern Nigeria and he moved on to   become to first Chief Judge of Imo State ten years later. His days both as judge and later as Chief Judge were remarkable because many successes were achieved during his period on the High Court bench.

In 1984, he was elevated to the exalted position of the Honourable Justice of the Supreme Court. To many who knew Oputa during his days at State High Court said it was well deserved elevation. It did not take long before he stamped his fit in the Supreme Court as a man profoundly moved by classical literature, history, divinity, and philosophy and who judgments possessed the temerity that is in the preserve of genius.  No wonder that the then Chief Justice of Nigeria Late Justice Mohammed Bello himself an outstanding judicial figure himself nicknamed him “Cicero”.

The clarity that later became the hallmark of Oputa’s judicial career is revealed early in his handling of the concept and effect of Estoppel in Okafor v Onuigbo & Ors:

“Estoppel is a rule of evidence. It is no other than a bar to testimony. Its sole aim is either to place an obstacle in the way of a case which might otherwise succeed, or to remove an impediment out of the way of a case which might otherwise fail. To use the language of naval warfare, estoppel must always be either a mine layer or a mine sweeper… not being a rule of substantial law, it cannot therefore declare on immediate right or claim, although when property used it can gravely affect substantive rights.”

Oputa’s judicial craft in dealing with the all too human tragedies that unfold when Marriages end in divorce court was well illustrated in the case of Okafor v Okafor as follows:

“Both parties claim the custody of this child…and both are very anxious to have the custody. If the parties to a marriage give enough thought to the problems a broken marriage may do and or pose to the issues (children) of that marriage and are prepared to swallow some of their pride and thus become less selfish, then there will definitely be a marked decrease in the divorce rate and its consequents broken homes. But experience has shown that parties show more interest in the custody of their children, a custody which should never have been in issue had the marriage survived”.

In another judgment, Oputa JSC (as he then was) reveals a judge ill at ease with legal technicality and very much on guard against lawyers whose only reason for going to court is to induce litigation fatigue in the other side instead of seeking remedies. He illustrates this in his decision in Okpara v Obi as follows:

“Rather than helping to narrow the issues to be contested at the trial, counsel nowadays, use pleadings to becloud the issues. The defendant’s pleading put the plaintiff to the “strictest proof” of every allegation of fact made in his statement of claim. That may be permissible but the party who wants proof of the obvious, or proof of what should have admitted, must be prepared to pay for such proof.”

In Adegoke Motors v Adesanya(1983) 3 NWLR (Pt 109) 250 @ 274-275, the revered Jurist alluded to the finality of the decisions of the Supreme Court when he said that:

“We are final not because we are infallible, rather we are infallible because we are final. Justices of this Court are human beings capable of erring. It will be short sighted arrogance not to accept this obvious truth.”

In the locus classicus of Garba v University of Maiduguri which deals with the issue of Right to fair hearing, Oputa said: “God has given you two ears. Hear both sides”

Of the many things that define a judge, five are arguably most important: Courage and conviction; listening; analysis and synthesis; the instinct for the right call; and communication in accessible reasoning and language. Many would have at least one of these; some have many if these but once in a while, there comes along a judge who combines all these characteristics and more in one package, enabling that judge to leave indelible impression on the landscape of jurisprudence.

In my humble view, Justice Chukwudifu Akunne Oputa is one such judge. Even as he was proceeding on retirement in1989, it was quite clear that Justice Oputa still much more needed and still has much to offer.  Justice Oputa has published over 40 papers in lectures, conferences, and seminars. He continues to be given Federal Assignments ever after retirements. Most notably was The National Human Rights Violation Commission (Oputa Panel) which he chaired to ascertain or establish the causes, nature and extent of all gross violations of human rights in Nigeria between January 15, 1966 and May 28, 1999. As a young and inspiring member of this noble legal profession, Justice Oputa is one of my great inspirations. His life and voyage in this Profession is for all to study and emulate. To your lordship; I celebrate you and your sparkling achievements.

I am Disappointed in Oscar- Jose Mourinho

From the blue sports centre, this is Oga Ossy with the News Update:
The news emanating from the official desk of Chelseafc has
confirmed that -»» Jose Mourinho who we know for his no-nonsense
attitude has slammed Oscar for his non commitment to the team.
This was following Oscar being worried of his injury not just for
missing the club matches, but for the fear of missing the World cup
in Brazil.
""I can imagine, in a couple of weeks, he will be in a high – and
during the World Cup he will be in a high. And these are things you
can't resolve.""
The gospel according to Jose Mourinho
What do you have to say on this?
Obviously, Jose Mourinho is becoming too harsh and controversial
with his players. !
Please Jose Mourinho learn how to swallow some issues! Stop being
controversial!

Chibok: CAN releases names of abducted girls

ABUJA – CHRISTIAN Association of Nigeria, CAN, Sunday,
released the names of the abducted female students in Chibok by the
Book Haram Sect.

The National Christian Body, consequently, demanded N50m as
damages as well as overseas scholarship, for each girl from the
federal government.
A Statement signed by the President/Founder of Old Time Revival
Hour, Kaduna & immediate-past chairman of Northern States
Christian and Elders Forum (NOCSEF), an affiliate of CAN,
Evangelist Matthew Owojaiye gave reason for the attack on Chibok
girls’ high school.
“Chibok Local Government is 90% Christians. Majority of the girls
abducted are Christian! Why did Boko Haram visit Chibok Local
Government? Why didn’t they visit so many other Local Government
Girls Secondary Schools in Borno State?”
While demanding for those girls in Senior Secondary School, SSS,
one and two to be transfered to schools of their choice, CAN called on
faithful across the country to pray for their release.
Owojaiye said for “Daughters of Zion taken captive, to be treated as
slaves and sold into marriage to unclean people. Abomination has been
committed.
“Raise lamentation to High Heavens. What a shame on the Church of
the Living God.
“The Church in Nigeria is hereby called to A Lamentation Prayer.
“Every Christian home must raise a lamentation to heaven daily. Let
God arise and defend his Name, Honour and Majesty.
“Let a 15 minutes cry to heaven be done in every Church every time
they gather. Oh God, Rend the Heavens and come down!
Why should the people say where is our God?
“The Military may not be able to solve the problem but prayer will.
Ordinary Military force may not get them out! Intensive Agonizing
Prayer will.”
CAN added that there should be a concrete plan by the federal
government after the recovery of the abducted girls.
“We make the following demands of the Federal Government whose
duty it was to protect the innocent girls.
“First, a N50million damage as trauma compensation to each girl.
“Second, a preparation to take each girl to an overseas University on
Government scholarship by September 2014. Preparation for that must
start now!
Vanguard has not been able to verify the authenticity of the list.

If Doctors Did Not Go On Strike, My Wife Will Be
Alive - Amaka Igwe's Husband

The news of the death of Legendary filmmaker
Amaka Igwe took us all by suprise but her husband
has shed some light on what happened.
The husband, Mr Charles Igwe
was talking with delegates from the National Executive of the National
Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) and
told them if there was no Doctors Strike his wife would be alive.
Mr Charles Igwe said:"We were in Enugu preparing for her new soap,
and Amaka was taking some of the people through acting when she
had an asthma attack.
After using her inhaler without
success, she was taken to a nearby hospital, but we were told that the
doctor was not around.
We then went to the teaching hospital in Enugu, where we were again
told that the Doctors were on strike. It was while we were taking her
to another hospital that she died."

Too Much Money: Former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu Acquires Another Private Jet Worth $60million (PHOTOS)

Former Governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed
Tinubu has acquired for himself a new private jet, a
source, who is a close friend of the leader of All
Progressives Congress, APC, has revealed.
According to the source, the jet is a Bombadier Global Express XRS,
the same type owned by Forbe's richest man in Africa Aliko Dangote,
Folorunsho Alakija and Mike Adenuga Jnr.
Aviation experts say the luxurious asset would cost nothing less than
$50million or more depending on specification.
* Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu
From Bombadier Challenger 605, Dassault Falcon 900, to
Gulfstream G550, such private jets range from $20m-$60m.
While details of the purchase is still unknown but reports say the jet
was ordered from the US and facilitated in Europe..
The Jet, which is the second owned by the politician, was allegedly
purchased so that Tinubu would not be refuelling when he goes on long
haul journeys.

Transfer: Chelsea Wants Bayern Munchen Striker

The latest gist emanating from Chelsea,Stamford Bridge, suggests
that-»» Chelsea has made a move to sign the Bayern Munich
striker, Mario Mandzukic to the west London club.
According to our source (Daily Star), Chelsea is willing to transact
with the German side as it is poised to refurbish its striking force.
MY VIEW AS REGARDS THIS MOVE:
Well, I think this is not the first time I am reporting this news.
Mario is a good striker whose pattern of football agrees with that of
Chelsea. He has a good aerial ability. He is not too bad. If price can
agree, why not!

Africa’s Richest Man Aliko Dangote Donates $1.2 Billion To Foundation

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, crowned
his entry into the 25 richest people in the world
with a gesture of philanthropy by announcing
he will donate $1.2 billion to a foundation he
set up two decades ago.
According to the latest Forbes magazine’s rich
list, Dangote became the first black man to
break into the league of the top 25 richest
people in the world with a personal wealth of
$25 billion, up from $16.1 billion in 2013.
Dangote’s net worth has risen nearly seven
folds since he debuted on the Forbes Rich list in
2008. This has been mainly attributed to the
tremendous growth his cement investments
have grown over the years tracking the
increased infrastructure growth across many
countries in Africa.
In an interview with THISDAY newspaper in
Nigeria, he said he would donate $1.2 billion of
his personal contributions and shares of
publicly listed firms to the Dangote Foundation
20 Years Old
“Since the Dangote Foundation is now 20 years
old, this initial endowment will assure that the
foundation has secure and steady funding to
carry out its mission as we significantly scale up
our work.” Dangote told THISDAY.
He said the Foundation last year appointed
Adhiambo Odaga, a Kenyan national who
previously served as the Ford Foundation’s
chief representative in West Africa, as the
managing director of the Foundation and it was
time for it to move to the ‘next stage’.
He added that from the second quarter of this
year, the foundation would lay greater
emphasis on youth and women empowerment
through large-scale efforts that cultivate
meaningful change in their lives.
Forbes reported the Foundation disburses small
grants usually within the range of $50 – $80 to
very poor rural women and youths who want
to start small businesses. An $80 grant, as
miniscule and as insignificant as it may seem,
could be a breakthrough for many rural
dwellers in Nigeria require such small amounts
to start low-cost businesses like roadside
catering, shoe repair, and other similar
concerns. The Foundation also funds the
construction of University libraries and
hospitals across Nigeria.

6 things you should NEVER text to your boyfriend

6. “It’s over!”
Seriously? Don’t be one of those girls who decide to break up with a
guy via text message. Have some courtesy and class to do it in person
or at the very least over the phone. This kind of news deserves to be
told in a more appropriate manner. Plus, breaking up with someone
over text can come off as, for lack of a better word, bi-t-chy. And at
the very least, if you do decide to break up with someone via text, DO
NOT make it a two worded text saying “it’s over.”
5. “Why Aren’t You Replying?!”
This comes off as SUPER clingy and somewhat creepy. Not everyone
has the time to talk to you every second of their day. Be considerate
and understand that maybe he’s just busy or isn’t in the mood to
text or talk. Nothing is more annoying that someone nagging about a
simple absence of a text. It’s also a huge turn off, considering the
fact that you seem kind of desperate. Just keep the clingy texting talk
to a minimum, and give him some space and allow yourself some
space.
4. Drunk Texts
If you’ve been under the influence, STAY AWAY FROM YOUR
PHONE. If you can’t text properly, don’t even attempt. This will
make you seem a little trashy for revealing your little party side and
you never know what you’re going to say. You could spill out some
words you will most likely regret the next day. Do yourself a favor
and do not let yourself look like an idiot. Have fun for the night and
leave the texting to the designated driver
3. Screen Shots of the Past
Sure, it can be cute and charming at times, but when you’re arguing
or with a text war with you guy, it is NOT okay to bring something
back from the past. Screen shots of texts from months ago or weeks
ago are not okay to keep a grudge on. If you’ve already had
confrontation about this stuff with your guy, then don’t bring it up
again as a way to leverage your new argument. Argue strictly what
is in the present, not what’s based on the past. Opening up new
wounds as a way of attack shouldn’t be your method. Be more
constructive and try to fix the ACTUAL problem, not the ones you’re
trying to manipulate.
2. “Is There Another Girl?”
This is another way to look clingy and somewhat crazy. Avoid it at
all cost, don’t try and pull a pity party for yourself especially if
you’re just looking to stir trouble. Plus if you do have insecurities
and concerns about there being another girl, do it in person.
Confronting them in person doesn’t allow them the time to come up
with something clever to say or to come up with a solid lie. Doing
this in person allows him to react enough for you to really know
what’s going on. But if you’re just trying to build your insecurities
with this method, trust me, it’ll come off as scary and clingy. DO
NOT DO IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.
1. Sarcastic Comments.
If you aren’t comfortable enough with a guy yet, try and avoid
sarcastic comments that can come off as rude. I’m not saying don’t
do it at all cost, but if a text seems a bit iffy, don’t do it. I totally
get it if you’re just trying to throw in parts and pieces of your
personality into your texts, but it might not be received as a simple
humorous gesture. It might make you come off snobby and rude.
Plus this can throw around some mixed signals, so until you’re
comfortable texting in a sarcastic, then try to be more straight
forward.
